Hey everyone Sinister Sheep here, and wanted to give my 2 cents about the Disney and fox deal. Now the initial reaction to this news would be, “oh my god this is so awesome finally a good x-men and fantastic four film that going to be in the MCU.” This seems exciting and I’d probably would have agreed if this deal happened after x-men apocalypses. As of recent however with the release of Deadpool and Logan i can say honestly that this deal is an awful idea. let’s think about this logically if Disney owns these properties these movies will loss there new edge. Logan is a ground breaking movie that completely deconstructs the superhero genre. There is not a lot of CGI, and no over the top super villain. The movie is a character piece that deals with a man fighting his own demons. It’s mature story and plot are ground breaking. It doesn’t have connections or guest appearances from other properties. Logan is it’s own movie, it changes the way we should look at superhero movies. Deadpool is a rude and crude comedy that parodies superhero movies. It makes fun of the average superhero movie tropes.
Rated R superhero movies NO MORE!
These recent movies are absolutely incredible and now because Disney might have a chance at owing these properties were gonna toss that away? Think about this logically the new rated R superhero movies fox has put out are great. if Disney owns these properties you can kiss that all goodbye. Some might say “well actually the marvel Netflix shows are T.V. MA.” This is true and all those shows are not nearly as good as the two perivous movies mentioned. Iron fist and Defenders were so good right? We just got use to rated R super hero movies. The movies both are a profit and critical success. Now that there’s a possibility that wolverine might meet captain America, all of the sudden its the best idea in the world. This is cool idea visually but awful from a story telling perspective. The MCU marvel movies in general are not challenging…there just good enough
Problems with the MCU
The MCU are good movies and that’s it. non of them are master pieces, they are perfect of a general movie audience. They are funny and action packed, that’s tons of fun! there’s nothing under the surface however and from a movie perspective they all look the same climatically. The reason why people liked guardians of the galaxy so much was because its something different to look at. Ant man was going to be directed by Edgar Wright but because marvel put so many restrictions on him, he dropped out. If they don’t all look the same audience will get confused right? Then how come Logan and Deadpool did so well and yet are so different from The MCU? Why do people want the x-men in the MCU?
Another problem with the MCU
The key reason why general audiences want this deal is simple. They want to see the x men and the avengers in the same movie. honestly who doesn’t, it would be so cool right! No it is not, lets use the recent Thor movie as an example. The New Thor movie is really fun and don’t worry no spoilers. In this movie They introduced the first hulk story line and it was good. However the story line is going to be expanded into two other existing marvel movies. This to me is distracting because having two stories in one movie will not work for every movie! It’s honestly even annoying when characters meet each other in a stand alone MCU movie. Look at Ant man for example, there’s a whole scene where ant man breaks into the avengers base. He meets off with Falcon and then bounces…so what was the point of that scene. It so audiences to go Ohhhhh i know him! and that’s it. This worries me because the x-men might get the same treatment.
Avengers meet X-men
X-men and Avengers have crossed over in marvel comics before but can it work in the movie? The two franchises are always separated from each other most of the time. Mutants are an allegory for racism, while the avengers are more of the save the world type. These two do not mix well at all and this is going to make for a mixed up story. You get to see them meet up! but at the cost of story and plot. The biggest complaint with cinematic universe is because all the movies are connected, the movies don’t have room to do something different. These two franchises are pretty different, having them together is going to be a disaster, from a movie stand point.
Fantastic 4 on the other hand…
Fantastic 4 movies have always been terrible, Marvel fix that real quick. The Fantastic 4 are all about family and are the bright side of the marvel universe. They fit perfectly into the marvel universe in its current state. Fantastic 4 are meant to be a fun time. X-men tackle some heavy social issues and works with a darker tone. Which is the main reason why I want it separate from the MCU. Fantastic 4 can bring something new to the MCU and can show people, why Fantastic 4 is so special.
So this is it then…
In conclusion i’m pretty much completely opposed to the Fox and Disney deal. With the exemption of the fantastic four. With movies like Logan and Deadpool i’m afraid the MCU will not be able to repeat dark story lines or create any rated R super hero movies. I know this is a not so popular opinion but by all means comment below about what you think. Am i completely wrong? Am I on to something? Let me know. Been gone a while but i’m back some comic book stuff coming up soon. Till then ill see you guys and gals next time.
